The Umpire
The Umpire is a player tasked to referee the Assassins Game and his word is law! The Umpire is in charge of updating the website and settling disputes amongst players.
The Umpire for all games may be contacted by emailing [email protected]
The umpire can be contacted about anything game related. This could be clarification over the rules, confusion over a players activities, or any other worries that a player might have.
If there are any errors or inconsistencies with the site it is important that you contact the Umpire about them. The game is not always easy to manage and mistakes can and will happen from time to time.
It is advised that if you have a more serious issue that you contact the Umpire via email, or a form on this site rather than in person. It is easier to answer emails when reports, spreadsheets and the rules are immediately available rather than going by memory. It is also likely that if you catch the Umpire in the SU on his 5th pint you probably won't receive a very accurate answer, if he can even remeber by the morning.
That said you are still more than welcome to talk to the Umpire in person about the game.
The bureau should run as a community and it is as much a players responsibility to report any errors, as it is for the Umpire to fix them. Players should not sit in a disgruntled fashion waiting for the umpire to stumble upon any issues they've found.
The Umpire can choose to take the role of chief of police and therefore can kill or be killed when in that role. The chief of police will always be revived at midnight if he is killed.
The Umpire makes no profit from running this game and often has other obligations such as coursework, work, getting drunk, and embarrassing himself in public. Although the Umpire will aim to read emails as quickly as possible he is not always going to be at your beck and call.
As mentioned above, the Umpires word is law. The game functions in such a way that not all judgments are clear cut; sometimes the Umpire needs to make decisions which not all players will approve of. The Umpire will aim to be as fair as possible, however this does not always leave people fully satisfied with the results. That is sometimes the nature of the beast.
Please also be aware that The Umpire will not spend every waking day contemplating how his day to day actions might affect the game. If The Umpire chooses to siocialise with a friend, and that friend happens to have a writ to kill you then DEAL WITH IT! The Umpire is not going to allow his social life to be ruled by what some players might deem unfair.
If you feel that the Umpire has made a poor judgement, e.g. not given you enough Kudos then feel free to politely ask for an explanation. Please don't however complain once that explanation has been given. The game relies so much on personal judgement that disagreements are inevitable (what should earn more Kudos, a stylish kill, or a kill that's difficult to pull off?). Just because you disagree with a judgement doesn't mean that everyone else would.
If the Umpire has written up your report incorrectly, not given you a kill you deserved, or killed you off when you should still be alive then please report the problem as soon as you notice it. Please don't sit there waiting for the Umpire to notice and complain if he doesn't. It is as much a players responsibility to report any mistakes to the Umpire, as it is for the Umpire to fix it.
The Umpire is usually only one person. They should be able to enjoy the game as much as any other player.
