FAQ
Q: Why are there so many rules, you can't expect me to read all of that.
A: The reason why there are so many rules is because each eventuality needs to be covered. Players need to be able to know exactly what does and doesn’t count as a kill simply by looking at the rules. When the rules are not clear the decision needs to be made by the Umpire, and often this can come across as unfair or confusing.
I am fully aware that not everyone will devour every single chapter of the rules. The minimum I expect from players is that they read the ‘basic rules’ and then scan through the rest to find what might individually apply to them e.g. rules on a weapon they would like to use.
Q: I know the room of the target is safe unless I'm invited in, but what about the house they live in?
A: Unless specified as a safe area, its in-bounds. So the rest of the house is fair game!
Please remember though that you are expected to act lawfully, this means no breaking and entering into strangers homes.
Q: Are corridors safe in university buildings?
A: Whilst we are not a university society, any university buildings (including the corridors) are safe areas.
Q: What happens if I open a poisoned letter in my room? (which is a safezone) also if I am poisoned and run into a safe area before I die will that save me?
A: If a poisoned letter is opened in your room then you will be safe from it's effects. If however you choose to open a poisoned letter outside a safezone and then take it within a safe zone it will still count. If in doubt ask the Umpire.
Q: If I think I know who my assassin is can I kill him in self-defence?
A: If you think you know who your assassin is then you are free to kill them in self defence. If however you end up killing the wrong person assuming that it is your assassin then you will be heavily penalised. If you choose to assassinate someone in self defence you need to clearly detail the reasons for this in your report.
Q: In relation to the sports activity rule does someone have to be wearing or carrying something related to the sport for the 10 minuet before and after safety time?
A: You must be on your way to a sporting activity and obviously wearing/holding an item (preferably clothing) as proof of your participation both before and after.
Q: Is there any way that I can kill someone at long range?
A: Yes if you take a good quality picture of them, clearly showing their face, and super-impose it with an image of a cross-hair aimed at them. This then counts as a 'Sniper kill' (Now added to the rules)
Q: I have been put on the wanted list when I haven't done anything wrong. What should I do?
A: The Umpire always contacts you when you have been placed on the wanted list for rulebreaking. If you honestly do not know what you have been added for then you should email the Umpire for an explanation, it might be a mistake.
If you have been inactive for over a week you will be placed on the wanted list. The Umpire might not necessarily email you when you have been placed on this list since in some games people are added to the list on a daily basis and it is too difficult to manage. If you believe you have been active within the last week then you should contact the Umpire and explain.
Q: I realise that I signed up to the game at my own risk, however during an assassination my assassin injured me and it doesn't seem fair.
A: As Umpire I take no legal responsibility over your actions, or any injury you might receive from choosing to play this game. I do however have a sense of fair play; so if your assassin crossed a line they be will be punished, if not removed from the game for it. If however I hear the words "seeking compensation" you will lose all sympathy from me.
Q: I didn't really enjoy this game because I constantly felt on edge that someone was going to attack me. Is there a role I can play that means I don't have to feel paranoid?
A: A minority of player say that they don't like playing the game because it gives them a sense of paranoia. If this applies to you then you can opt to skip the assassin part of the game and volunteer to become a police officer. Police officers will not be targeted by players unless it is in self defence.
You can do this simply by mentioning it in the signup form, or by emailing the Umpire. This obviously isn't in the spirit of the game, however it is better to have a player involved in the game than not playing at all.
Q: I'm allurgic to certain items included in the potions at the weapons store, what should I do?
A: If you have an allergy then contact The Umpire and he can whip out his recipe book and offer a replacement ingredient.
